Fourteen human rights NGOs published a position paper on the independence of the judiciary in Palestine. The position paper addressed the latest developments at the judicial level in light of the political and international challenges that Palestine is going through. It also showed the internal problems that the Palestinian judicial system has been going through since the Palestinian political division in 2007. Now, there are two judicial councils, one in the West Bank and the other in the Gaza Strip, and the same for the prosecution, where there is two attorneys general. In addition to the dissolution of the Legislative Council and its implications for society, law enforcement, and the principle of separation of powers, as stipulated in amended Palestinian Basic Law.
