The international community reaffirmed its full support for holding Palestinian elections and urged Israel not to obstruct their holding in East Jerusalem. In their statements at an open debate on the Middle East, Member States delegates of the United Nations Security Council reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to achieve justice, peace, and statehood for Palestine. They condemned continued settlement activity and called for compliance with the Security Council Resolution 2334. They further stressed that the Israeli settlement activities are unacceptable, illegal, violate international law, threaten the prospects for peace and make the two-state solution impossible to implement. The Council also requested Israel not jeopardize the holding of elections throughout the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem. For further details, click here
