The European Union (EU) warned against the implications of Israeli occupation’s actions, such as eviction and demolition of buildings, as well as the displacement of Palestinians in Occupied Jerusalem. The EU spokesperson in Brussels has condemned the Israeli authorities’ intention of constructing 540 new housing units in illegal Har Homa settlement. The implementation of these plans, as well as those for the settlement of Givat Hamatos, would cut off East Jerusalem from Bethlehem and severely undermine future negotiations for a two-state solution in line with international consensus. The EU reiterated its position that all settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory are illegal under international law and that the EU will not recognize any changes to the pre-1967 borders, including in Jerusalem, other than those agreed by both sides, calling on the Israeli authorities to immediately put an end to these violations.
