UNSC issues resolution no. 93 on Palestine on this day
On this day in 1951, the UN Security Council issued Resolution No. (93) to encourage a lasting peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians; it is imperative that the governments of Israel and Syria uphold the armistice agreement of July 20, 1949. It was affirmed that Arab civilians – who were evacuated from the demilitarized zone by the Israeli government – must return immediately to their homes, with the mutual armistice committee supervising their return and rehabilitation in a manner decided by the Committee. The decision also indicated people cannot be transferred across international borders, armistice lines, or within the demilitarized area without the consent of the Joint Armistice Commission’s chairman.
