The President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sissi, and the King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Abdallah II, held a meeting on Tuesday, May 18. They expressed their deep concern regarding the escalation of tensions in the Middle East which has resulted in too many casualties claiming the lives of many civilians, including children. The leaders additionally called on the two parties to immediately agree on a ceasefire. They decided to work with the intentional partners to reach a ceasefire, including through the UN Security Council. The three leaders confirmed the urgent need to address the root causes of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict by resuming effective negotiations to achieve a just and lasting peace.
