Seventeen members of the US Senate from the Democratic Party sent a letter to the Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, urging him to coerce Israel into allowing the entry of humanitarian aid and reconstruction materials to Gaza. The members of the US Senate called on the Biden administration to pressure Tel Aviv to reopen the two commercial crossings to enter aid and fuel that addresses the growing needs of the civilian population, stressing the importance of providing fund for humanitarian efforts in both Gaza and the West Bank and the support of the United Nations through UNRWA. They demanded the restoration of the U.S. diplomatic presence with both Israel and the Palestinians, and that the United States should play an active role in improving the conditions of the Gaza Strip by meeting humanitarian needs and coordinating with allies to ensure the sustainability of the ceasefire and to prevent the rise of extremism.
