Palestinian Justice Minister Mohammed al-Shalaldeh said the Israeli government’s detention of the bodies of martyrs is a flagrant violation of the rules and principles of international law, and a crime against humanity. Al-Shalaldeh announced the formation of a national legal team consisting of the Ministries of Justice, Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, the Commission of Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs, human rights organizations, and others to retrieve the bodies of martyrs. Al-Shalaldeh indicated that the Secretary-General of the United Nations expressed his concern over the detention of the bodies of the martyrs and demanded that the Israeli authorities hand them over to their families. In addition, the United Nations Committee against Torture issued a report through the Human Rights Council confirming that the detention of the bodies is a form of torture and cruel treatment, he added. Al-Shalaldeh stressed the possibility of activating these reports through the submission of individual complaints by the families of martyrs through the UN human rights complaints, indicating that preparation is underway to submit individual complaints in cooperation with civil society organizations.
