Palestinian human rights and civil organizations in the Gaza Strip organized a press conference to reject the policy of administrative detention practised by the Israeli occupation authorities against Palestinians. In addition, the organisations affirmed the rights that prisoners and detainees in occupation prisons must enjoy, and their legitimate right to go on hunger strike to secure their rights, stressing that the Israeli occupation authorities are committing crimes that violate international standards related to human rights. These organisations pointed to a number of legal violations including arbitrary administrative detention, foremost of which is detention without charge or trial and extensions that are not subject to a time limit, in violation of the stipulations of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, foremost of which is the right to a fair trial.
