The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, expressed his confidence that the recent developments in the region, especially those related to the “Palestinian problem” and the Arab-Israeli conflict, will not affect the Arab consensus on the imperative to end the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands as a fundamental necessity for a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East. The Secretary-General added that the discussions in the last Arab League ministerial meeting this September on the Palestinian issue, regardless of the confusion that occurred about the fate of a particular draft resolution, confirmed the existence of a common factor that unites all Arab countries and the need to end the Israeli occupation of the occupied Palestinian lands since June 4, 1967, the establishment of an independent, viable, and sovereign Palestinian state on all the Palestinian lands, including East Jerusalem, until peace is achieved.
