Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, stressed in his speech during the Security Council Ministerial Meeting on “the state of security and peace in the Middle East” that the Palestinians have experienced unprecedented pressure exercised on them during the past four years by the outgoing US administration, adding that the Palestinian cause was subjected to deliberate neglect and double standards dealing favouring Israel. In his speech, Aboul Gheit stressed that the international community still considers – by unanimously- the two-state solution as the only acceptable approach to end the Palestinian- Israeli conflict. He also emphasized that declaring Jerusalem the capital of Israel and expanding settlement activities are both illegal measures and go contrary to the logic of a negotiated solution.
