The head of the PLO’s Refugee Affairs Division, Ahmed Abu Houli, said, in response to the statements of the representative of Israel to the UN, Gilad Erdan, in which he said that “one of the biggest reasons for the U.N.’s failure in ending the conflict is its continued support of UNRWA”, that the failure of the United Nations to solve the Palestinian conflict – The Israeli goes back to the successive occupation governments’ denial of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and their lack of respect for UN resolutions, especially regarding the right of refugees to return under Resolution 194. Abu Houli added: “Israel is the one that has prolonged the conflict in the region because it refused to return the Palestinian refugees to their homes and not the UN support for UNRWA.” He also considered that Erdan’s statements came within the framework of the Israeli targeting of UNRWA to liquidate it and end its role as an entry point to liquidate the refugee issue.
