Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights, the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel(PCATI), and other organizations issued a joint statement urging Israel to allow administrative detainee Maher Al-Akhras, who has been on hunger strike since July 27 and is said to be at risk of death, to be transferred to a hospital in the West Bank or release it immediately before it is too late. The NGOs said this case highlights the continued and excessive use of administrative detention in Israel – a measure that allows the Israeli military commander to detain people indefinitely without disclosing the allegations against them.
