The Foundation participated in a consultative session organized by the Irish Coalition for Business and Human Rights, as part of the coalition project on human rights and due diligence in the field of environment. Al-Haq presented in a speech that has negative corporate repercussions on the human rights of the Palestinian people and their role in sustaining and strengthening the Israeli occupation and indicated that those effects should be understood in the context of the systematic Israeli violations that work to control the resources and lands of the Palestinian people. Al-Haq highlighted how, given the inalienable rights of the occupied population to self-determination, including permanent sovereignty over natural resources, the occupying power is prohibited from exercising its sovereign rights over these resources. Al-Haq said that Israeli civilians are allowed to illegally support the settlement project by exploiting and benefiting from the rich natural resources in the area. And contrary to its obligation under the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights to protect against human rights violations within its jurisdiction by commercial companies, Israel grants leases and licenses for the commercial exploitation of resources in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
