Al Mezan Center for Human Rights issued a press release condemning Israel’s arbitrary closure of the fishing zone in Gaza and considering it a form of collective punishment. This press release comes in the wake of Israel announcing the complete closure of the fishing zone, in response to the firing of rockets from the Gaza strip. Al-Mezan warned that the decision severely affects the livelihoods of an estimated 5,000 workers and their families, and violates the Fourth Geneva Convention and other international human rights treaties to which Israel is a state party.
