The Al Mezan Center for Human Rights issued a report on the “torture and abuse of children fleeing Gaza’s humanitarian catastrophe.” The center said that the deterioration of the socioeconomic conditions in the Gaza Strip due to Israel’s unilateral imposition of 13 years of closure and blockade has led an alarming number of child residents to undertake dangerous emigration routes out of the Strip in search of better living conditions and the chance at a dignified life. The report focused on the arrest and abuse of children who try to cross the buffer zone implemented by Israel, as it documented 91 children who were victims of their attempt to cross the border fence into Israel between 2015 and 2019.
