The American Jewish movement, IfNotNow, called on US President Joe Biden to stand up to Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett regarding the violation of Palestinian human rights. “This is a historic opportunity for Biden to challenge the status quo of the US’s endless political and economic support of the Israeli government’s human rights violations against Palestininians,” the movement’s statement read. It stressed the campaign clear message to President Biden that American Jews want him to stand in the way of Bennett’s anti-Palestinian policies, and to put human rights first in the meeting with Bennett. The movement noted that just one month after Biden’s inauguration, his Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, issued a statement titled: “Putting human rights at the center of US foreign policy,” claiming that the United States would be committed to protecting human rights around the world, including by holding violators of those rights accountable. The movement stressed that Israel cannot be an exception to the US administration’s commitment to human rights. For further details, click here
