The President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, received a letter from the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, about the State of Palestine’s call for an international peace conference in the Middle East. In his letter, Guterres thanked President Abbas for his letter dated October 28, 2020, which confirmed the State of Palestine’s call to hold an international peace conference in the Middle East per United Nations resolutions and international law. In his letter, he said, “We have noted the support expressed by many member states during the open debate in the Security Council on the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue, on October 26, 2020.” Guterres said that the United Nations welcomes all efforts that seek international cooperation on a multilateral basis, which can revive the peace process in the Middle East and define the diplomatic path towards a just and comprehensive peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis. Guterres also stressed the commitment of the United Nations to support the Palestinians and Israelis in their endeavors to resolve the conflict based on relevant UN resolutions.
