At the International Justice for Palestine webinar organized by the Malaysian Bar Council’s Human Rights Committee: Law for Palestine calls for concrete action in pursuit of accountability for Palestinian victims
Hassan Ben Imran, a board member at Law for Palestine, has participated in a webinar organized by the Human Rights Committee of the Malaysian Bar Council, on the efforts for justice for Palestine. The webinar was held in English via Zoom on September 30, 2022.
Hassan spoke about the international accountability efforts in pursuit of justice for Palestine and what could be done. He highlighted the role of NGOs and individual lawyers in pushing for more accountability against perpetrators of international crimes and suggested pushing for some resolutions in the UNGA including; A resolution to condemn the apartheid regime Israel has established, a resolution and an action plan to hold businesses operating in the illegal Israeli settlements, and a resolution to deal with, and condemn, the shrinking freedom of expression for pro-Palestinian activists and other Anti-Palestinian Racism (APR) practices. He finally called for an action plan to activate the principle of Universal Jurisdiction in domestic courts.
The event was started by a recorded keynote speech by Madam Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on Palestine. In addition to Mr. Hassan, the webinar’s panel was attended by Mr. Azril Amin, President of the Centre for Human Rights Research and Advocacy – Malaysia (CENTHRA), and Dr. Tarik Temas, Director of GPM Malaysia-Palestine. The webinar was moderated by Ms. Usha Kulasegaran, co-deputy chairperson of the Malaysian Bar Council’s Human Rights Committee and the Head of its ICC Working Group.
