The plenary session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) came at the request of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab Group, to the President of the General Assembly, Volkan Bozkir, for a joint debate on the issue of Palestine and the situation in the Middle East. The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) subsequently joined this request. The President of the General Assembly said that what is happening now in the Middle East region is not new, pointing out that “the Palestinian question is the longest-standing issue on the United Nations agenda.” Riyad al-Maliki, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Palestine Observer, said that the current meeting is a clear message to Israel to end the massacre, adding that Palestine has long accepted political and peaceful strategies to end the occupation. Arab and international officials continued to condemn the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in all of the Palestinian territories. Many countries expressed their condemnation of the massacres committed in the Gaza Strip by the Israeli occupation, the violations of Islamic and Christian sanctities in Jerusalem, specifically Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the attempt to forcibly displace the people of Sheikh Jarrah.
