US President Biden revoked Executive Order 13928 on “prohibiting the property of certain persons associated with the International Criminal Court (ICC),” ending the imposition of economic sanctions and visa restrictions in relation to the Court, which had been put in place by the former Trump administration following the attorney general’s positive stance of opening an investigation into situations of Palestine – Israel and Afghanistan – America. Under this new resolution, the penalties imposed on the Prosecutor of the ICC, Fatou Bensouda, and Vakisu Mushushoku, Head of the Jurisdiction, Integration and Cooperation Division of the Office of the Prosecutor will be abolished. In a statement, the US administration said:“We still strongly disagree with the ICC’s procedures regarding the Afghan and Palestinian situations. We reserve our longstanding objection to the Court’s efforts to assert jurisdiction over individual non-party states such as the US and Israel. However, we believe that our concerns about these issues would be better addressed by engaging with all stakeholders in the work of the ICC rather than imposing sanctions.”For further details, click here
