China’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, Geng Shuang, called for the resumption of peace talks between the Palestinians and the Israelis. Palestinians and Israelis must adhere to the strategic option of peace talks and relaunch equal-footed dialogue without delay, said Shuang. In a Security Council meeting on the Middle East, he stressed that China welcomes President Mahmoud Abbas’ initiative to convene an international peace conference early next year, stressing the need to respect and implement relevant United Nations resolutions and the land-for-peace principle and the two-state solution. “China notes with great concern the continued great expansion of settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories and calls on all concerned parties to abide by United Nations resolutions, settle the final demarcation of the Palestinian-Israeli border through peaceful negotiations, refrain from unilateral measures that may exacerbate tensions, and abandon annexation plans and cease settlements expansion.” To check the news, click here
