Deputy United Nations Special Coordinator, Lynn Hastings, gave the UN Middle East Office’s monthly briefing to the Security Council on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question. The briefing called on Israel to implement additional measures to allow unhindered entry of all humanitarian assistance, including materials to implement the 2021 Humanitarian Response Plan and the Flash Appeal. Further, it assured that durable stability requires improving movement and access in and out of Gaza, and that a sustainable future in Gaza requires political solutions. It also called on the Palestinian authority to implement much needed reforms, including the so-called prisoner payment system, and to strengthen the rule of law and accountability. Moreover, it called upon the Israeli security forces to ensure the protection of Palestinians, in line with Israel’s obligations under international humanitarian law. For further details, click here
