The Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization Dr. Saeb Erekat has sent formal letters to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, head of the delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross, foreign ministers of Russia, China, the European Union, and Britain, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, in which he has explained the seriousness of the conditions inside the occupation prisons under the current circumstances of the outbreak of the Coronavirus and the prevention of providing sterilizers and cleaning materials for the prisoners by the Israel Prison Service. Erekat has explained the consequences of these conditions on the lives of the prisoners especially for the 700 sick prisoners, including 300 prisoners who suffer from chronic diseases and in desperate need for continuous treatment. In addition, Erekat has also explained the condition of the Palestinian prisoner Kamal Abu Wa’ar (46 years old). Abu Wa’ar, who is suffering from throat cancer and is serving a life sentence, was confirmed to have tested positive for COVID-19 and the necessity to release him and the other prisoners before it is too late. Erekat has also called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities to deter and hold Israel accountable and obligate it to its duties as the responsible authority for arresting the Palestinians, exert its pressure on it in order to release the sick prisoner Kamal Abu Wa’ar immediately and to release all sick prisoners, all the elderly, children, and women Prisoners and those whose sentence is close to be finished and to release all the administrative detainees before it is too late.
