HaMoked said that through July 2020, Israel held a total of 4,394 Palestinian “security” prisoners, including 2,870 convicted prisoners, 1,161 detainees held in pre-trial detention, and 363 administrative detainees without trial.
The organization said that Israel’s treatment of security prisoners violates their rights to equality, dignity, family life and education, in violation of international law. Furthermore, their detention in prisons inside Israel constitutes a flagrant violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention prohibiting the transfer of prisoners and detainees outside the occupied territories.
