Ir Amim Organization said that the al-Walaja village, south of East Jerusalem, is under serious threat of being forcibly uprooted, with 38 houses facing demolition. The Jerusalem District Planning Board rejected the population’s preliminary plan to formally legalize their homes and allow for further residential development. The organization said that the issue provided a prime example of widespread housing discrimination against Palestinians in Jerusalem, it further stood as a clear example of the Committee’s disregard for the village’s role in preserving the area’s traditional and historical agricultural assets.
