The Israeli Minister of Interior, Ayelet Shaked, intends to individually reject any request for family reunification by Palestinian citizens of Israel to be joined by their spouses from the West Bank or Gaza — if the Knesset does not approve an amendment to the citizenship law that prohibits family reunification. She said that the opposition should put the “national” interests ahead of political ones, amid continuing voices in the coalition to solve the dilemma. She added that the ban on family reunification is not enough to prevent Palestinians from obtaining the right to reside in the country, and therefore the opposition must vote in favor of extending the current law. Otherwise it will have serious and devastating repercussions, and it involves a lack of national responsibility on the part of the opposition. For further details, click here
