The Israeli opposition has been working in the Knesset on a bill that would prevent the United States from reopening its diplomatic mission to the Palestinians in Jerusalem, putting the new government on the path of potential conflict with US President Joe Biden. Biden announced that the United States will work to reopen the consulate to the Palestinians after his January election victory. “The bill comes in light of the Bennett-Lapid government’s intention to succumb to international pressure by establishing consulates that will address the Palestinians within Jerusalem,” the opposition said. “Apart from the political danger, the move poses a security risk and will allow Palestinians to [freely] enter Jerusalem.
