Dr. Jason Hart has recently published a chapter in the book “International Child Protection” titled: “Child Protection in Palestine and Jordan: From Rights to Principles?” This chapter examines the accountability of humanitarian organizations when it comes to child protection, within the context of armed conflict and political violence. An examination of the potential of humanitarian principles to create a framework for accountability is presented, as it has been argued that rights-based approaches have been ineffective. UN agencies and NGOs in Jordan and Palestine are working to ensure the protection of children in accordance with these principles—humanity, impartiality, neutrality and independence. The failure to maintain these principles is shown and the potential to use such failure to push for change in the future is discussed. For further details, click
