Law for Palestine participated in an interactive workshop held by the Danish Network for Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding and RIKO Organization, on the International Day of Peace, on “Prospects and Challenges of Building Inclusive and Localized Peace”.
The workshop, which was held in the Danish capital Copenhagen and was also broadcast via Zoom, discussed the opportunities and challenges of peacebuilding in conflict areas and highlighted the importance of the localization of peacebuilding projects to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable peace.
The event was directed mainly toward members of Danish civil society organizations and the Danish Network, such as the Danish Refugee Council, Oxfam IBIS, the Council for International Conflict Resolution, RIKO, Care Denmark, among others.
Iman Zueiter participated in the event as a main speaker representing Law for Palestine, along with the former Afghani Minister Narges Nihan, who presented the Afghani experience in this regard.
In her intervention, Zueiter focused on the challenges facing the peace-building process in Palestine as a state under occupation, and the importance of involving all segments of the Palestinian society in order to build a comprehensive and sustainable peace. She pointed out some of the most important peace projects that can have a positive long-term impact. Mainly, she indicated those aiming to change the status quo and the illegal situation in Palestine, in addition to those aiming at empowering all segments of society. She showed statistics of the negative impact of the ongoing occupation and internal division on building sustainable peace in the Palestinian territories.
In the same context, Zueiter presented the positive experience of Law for Palestine in raising awareness, creating experts and raising discussion regarding the Palestinian issue from the perspective of international law, indicating that the organization aims to “enable Palestinians to possess the needed keys to build sustainable peace and to understand the tools that may help them in their struggle to end the occupation and establish the rule of law.”
