Law for Palestine Concludes Series of High-Level Meetings with EU Officials in Brussels
Brussels, September 2024 – Rania Madi, Senior Advisor at Law for Palestine, concluded a series of meetings with European Union (EU) officials and Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) in Brussels. These meetings were conducted in coordination with the European Coordination of Committees and Associations for Palestine (ECCP) and included 26 other organisations from 23 European countries working on the Palestinian cause. The primary agenda of the meetings focused on the International Court of Justice’s Advisory Opinion on the illegality of the Israeli occupation and the legal responsibilities of EU member states to uphold international law. Discussions specifically addressed the need for a military embargo, the obligation to prevent and punish the genocide taking place in Gaza, and the importance of accountability for violations of international law. During the visit, Madi met with high-level EU officials, including the European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Iliana Ivanova, as well as representatives from the office of the EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process. She also engaged in discussions with MEPs and their assistants from several EU countries, including Italy, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, France, Spain, Ireland, and Estonia.

“It was encouraging to see such widespread engagement and commitment to addressing the critical issues of illegal occupation and genocide in Palestine.
