Law for Palestine Joins the Coalition for the International Criminal Court: Amplifying Voices for Accountability in Palestine
Law for Palestine (L4P), a human rights organization with official registrations in both the United Kingdom and Sweden, has recently joined the esteemed Coalition for the International Criminal Court (CICC). This significant move positions L4P alongside over 2500 civil society organizations from 150 countries united under the common goal of seeking justice for victims of grave international crimes.
As a committed member of the Coalition, L4P pledges to collaborate closely with its diverse membership to ensure that the International Criminal Court (ICC) operates with the utmost fairness, effectiveness, and independence. The overarching objective is to strengthen international cooperation with the Court, enhance the visibility and universality of justice, and advocate for robust national laws that uphold justice for victims of crimes under the Rome Statute.
L4P’s decision to join the Coalition is aligned with its mission to enhance the ICC’s effectiveness in addressing the Palestine/Israel case. Given recent escalations in atrocities, including acts of genocide, L4P seeks to have the ICC assume a more prominent role. By aligning legal mechanisms with the lived experiences of affected individuals, the organization aims to ensure accountability for perpetrators and deliver justice to the victims without any double standards.
Within the Coalition, L4P will actively engage in two pivotal teams: the ICC Elections Team and the Review of the ICC and Rome Statute Team. The former vigilantly monitors the ICC leadership selection processes, advocating for transparency and merit-based nominations. The latter facilitates a collaborative effort among State Parties to strengthen the ICC’s performance, ensuring inclusivity of all relevant stakeholders.
The Coalition’s diverse membership includes renowned human rights organizations like Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and the American Bar Association’s International Criminal Court Project. Notably, Palestinian Human Rights Organizations, including ADDAMEER, Al-Haq, and the Palestinian Center for Human Rights, also play an integral role within the Coalition.
As a duly accredited member, representatives from Law for Palestine will actively monitor and engage with the Coalition’s activities, ensuring a robust and effective contribution to the pursuit of justice on the international stage, with particular focus on Palestine.
