Law for Palestine to take part in monitoring the 2021 Palestinian elections
Law for Palestine (L4P) has announced it will take part in the upcoming Palestinian elections as an international election observer, to ensure transparency and compliance with international human rights standards.
The London-based Organization has obtained official accreditation from the Central Elections Committee (CEC) to exercise the role of an observer. The CEC has the power to grants such accreditation under the relevant Palestinian electoral laws in place.
The monitoring process carried out by L4P is concerned with monitoring the conduct of the electoral process in its general framework not only on polling days but through the whole electoral process, in addition to shedding light on the impact of the occupation’s presence on the conduct of the Palestinian elections, said Angham Sawalha, head of L4P’s delegated observers.
Ms. Sawalha further warned against any Israeli practices or violations during the electoral process, whether through the restriction of Palestinians’ freedom of movement, closure of roads, erection of military checkpoints, or denial of access by media to election sites.
“The monitoring process carried out by L4P is concerned with monitoring the conduct of the electoral process in its general framework not only on polling days but through the whole electoral process, in addition to shedding light on the impact of the occupation’s presence on the conduct of the Palestinian elections.”

L4P has provided 11 international observers in the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) and Gaza, who have been trained by experts to monitor the elections. The team will provide the organization with periodic reports, pending the production of L4P’s comprehensive report on potential electoral violations as well as any violations by the Israeli occupation, Ms. Sawalha stated.
She added that, any violations will be reported to the CEC, and will be enclosed in the final report on the elections on a national level.
The elections in Palestine are scheduled to be held in three stages, the first being the legislative elections, to be held on May 22, followed by the presidential elections, to be held on July 31, and finally the Palestinian National Council (PNC)’s elections, to be held on August 31, 2021.
