The Assistant Secretary-General of Arab League, Saeed Abu Ali, called on the international community to assume its responsibilities in protecting the Palestinian people, their land, their holy sites, and their children in Israeli prisons. Abu Ali said that international silence on Israeli practices does not mean anything but a repudiation of this responsibility and is only encouraging the Israeli occupation authorities to continue their aggression. He pointed out that the international community, represented by its organizations, bodies and states, especially within the framework of the Security Council, is obliged to revive the political process. The international community is also under an obligation to reach a comprehensive and just solution to the Palestinian issue, by establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, under international law resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative. He also called for putting an end to settlement building and expansion and to the Judaization of Palestinian towns and villages, in addition to the denial of Palestinians’ most basic rights. He further called for speeding up Gaza’s reconstruction efforts. For further details, click here
