The Legal Adviser to the Israeli government, Avichai Mandelblit, condemned the decision of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in The Hague to open an investigation into “alleged” war crimes committed by Israel and the Palestinians, and said that the decision undermined the Court’s legitimacy. Mandelblit added, “Israeli legal officials are monitoring the case closely and are ready to deal with any potential developments in the case”. He also emphasized that Israel and many other countries have argued that the International Criminal Court does not have jurisdiction over the case, because Israel is not a member of the Rome Statute and because Palestine lacks the criteria of statehood, yet the court, in its decision and the statement of the public prosecutor, decided to ignore the legal justifications presented to it.
