Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jane Asselborn has expressed his county’s rejection of the annexation plans submitted to the Israeli government and considered it “stealing” of the Palestinian territories, and it would mark the end of the Middle East peace process. Asselborn has also said that the European Union should impose economic sanctions on Israel if it takes practical measures to annex parts of the West Bank. In his interview with the German newspaper DER SPIEGEL, Asselborn demanded a united European position toward Israel, no less than the recognition of Palestine as a state by the European Union governments. Asselborn mentioned that the Middle East is strongly shaped by religion, recalling the seventh of the Ten Commandments contained in the Bible: “Thou shalt not steal.
