Mahmoud al-Habbash, the Palestinian Judge and the president’s advisor for religious affairs and Islamic relations, said that the occupation’s decision to close the Ibrahimi Mosque in the city of Hebron to worshipers as of Friday morning January 8, 2021, for 10 days, is considered a war crime by international law. Al-Habbash confirmed in a statement issued by him on Thursday evening (January 6, 2021), the continued attacks against religious sanctities, the Temple Mount and the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron, and preventing Muslims from performing their rituals freely could create an environment of religious war. He also added that Israel bears full responsibility for the repercussions of this barbaric aggression against Palestinian religious sanctities and mosques. Furthermore, the judge indicated that this decision against the Ibrahimi Mosque is an interference with the powers of the Palestinian Islamic Endowment and an assault on the UNESCO decision, which affirmed that the Ibrahimi Mosque is a pure Islamic place in which non-Muslims have no right.
