UNSC issues resolution no. 694 on Palestine.
On this day in 1991, the UN Security Council issued Resolution 694, condemning the deportation of four Palestinians by the Israeli authorities on May 18, 1991 – in violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention (1949) relating to the protection of civilians in time of war, which applies to all territories occupied by Israel since 1967 including Jerusalem. The resolution denounces this act and reaffirms that Israel (the occupying Power) must refrain from deporting any Palestinian civilians from the Occupied Territories, and guarantee the safe return of all deportees.
