Mr. Nickolay Mladenov, the UN special coordinator for the Middle East peace process, reported to the Security Council about the implementation of the Security Council Resolution 2334, released in 2016, which is related to suspending settlement activities undertaken by Israel. The UN coordinator addressed the grave threat that settlements pose to sustaining peace in the Middle East & the realization of the two-state solution, considering the settlements is a grave violation of International Law. These actions have no legal basis whatsoever, despite all the attempts to legitimize them, Mladenov said, stating that they threaten the daily lives of many Palestinians in the West Bank. He talked about Israel’s defiance to the Security Council resolution, and how it continues to construct and plan large settlement projects. In regard to the Gaza strip, the coordinator affirmed that the solution is solely political, which is to unify the West Bank and the Gaza strip under one political entity for Palestinians. He also stated that Israel should take big steps to facilitate the movement of people and goods from and into the Gaza strip. To check the news, click here.
