Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Defense Minister, Benny Gantz, asked the Israeli the High Court of Justice to delay the implementation of the evacuation and demolition plan for the Bedouin herding village of “Khan al-Ahmar” east of Jerusalem, for at least 4 months. The official letter signed by the President of the National Security adviser Meir Bin Shabat stated that the political level confirms the necessity of implementing the demolition order and that efforts are being completed by the Civil Administration to discuss additional options for formulating an implementable plan regarding the demolition of the Bedouin village and to achieve this goal the political level needs to an additional period of several months. The written request said that other broad considerations have implications for the timing of implementing the order, in addition to the restrictions arising due to the Coronavirus crisis. “The decision of the political leadership at present does not allow the implementation of demolition orders during the next four-month period, and the timing of implementing the order will be re-examined after this period,” he added.
