The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Riyad Al-Maliki, announced that the State of Palestine decided to abandon its right to chair the Council of the Arab League in its current session, in response to the normalization of the UAE and Bahrain with Israel. Al-Maliki said that the State of Palestine would not withdraw from the League Council, because the withdrawal could create a major gap at this sensitive stage. He also hoped that the Arab countries that reject normalization will remain firm in their position and remain committed to the League’s decisions and the Arab peace initiative. Al-Maliki added, “Unfortunately, the Secretariat-General of the Arab League made a decision to condone Emirati normalization, and failed to issue a resolution condemning the “normalization of relations” with Israel during the last meeting of the League”.
