The State of Palestine, represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, submitted observations to the Pre-Trial Chamber of the International Criminal Court in the case decided by the court entitled “The situation in the State of Palestine”. The court’s Prosecutor had requested the opening of an investigation into the crimes committed in the Palestinian territories. The observations stated that the question of the state of Palestine was settled after Palestine ratified the Rome Statute on which the court was established, and there is no reason to reconsider this issue (knowing that in 2012 the United Nations General Assembly recognized Palestine as a “non-member state”),and that the occupation or lack of sovereignty does not eliminate the judicial authority of Palestine, and that is the reason for the court’s existence in the first place is the initiation of cases of this kind. Palestine stressed in the paper that failure to conduct an investigation will negatively affect the court’s credibility. To check the paper, click here
