The Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the United Nations, Ambassador Riyad Mansour, reiterated that Israel does not have any sovereign rights in occupied East Jerusalem, including the old city, al-Aqsa Mosque and al-Haram Al-Sharif in general. In three letters to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the Security Council for this month (France), and the President of the UN General Assembly, Ambassador Mansour expressed his frustration at the grave and continuing violations by Israel, the occupying power, in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem. He further warned against Israel’s actions as they threaten to ignite a dangerous religious strife while given immunity. Mansour urged the international community, including the Security Council, to convey clear and firm messages to Israel that it must respect international law, including the relevant Security Council resolutions.
