The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Riyad al-Maliki, sent a letter to the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, Virginia Gamba, about the recent Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people and the impact of its crimes on children. In his letter, the Minister referred to the violent attacks in which Israel targeted innocent Palestinian children, killing many and causing severe pain and suffering for many more, while also annihilating entire families. Mr al-Maliki also brought Ms Gamba’s attention to Israel’s targeting of schools and hospitals, in flagrant violation of the rules of international law, including international human rights law, international humanitarian law, international criminal law and relevant UN resolutions, including Security Council Resolution 1612 concerning children in armed conflict. Mr al-Maliki called on the Special Representative to protect Palestinian children in accordance with her mandate, and called on Israel, the Occupying Power, to end its bloody crimes against Palestinian children.
