The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates (MOFA) called on the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, to give priority to the files referred by the State of Palestine, and to speed up the investigations into the crimes of the occupation against the Holy City of Jerusalem, especially the forced displacement of citizens in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood and the town of Silwan. The Ministry called on the Secretary-General of the UN, Antonio Guterres, to activate and implement the international protection system for the Palestinian people immediately. The Ministry further condemned the practices of the Israeli occupation and its various institutions against the people of Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, Silwan town, and its neighborhoods, and the continuous aggression against them, in preparation for their forced displacement from their homes for the benefit of settlers and their extremist groups. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held the occupation government fully and directly responsible for the outcome and repercussions of home demolitions and forced displacement of Jerusalemites, considering it an integral part of the crime of ethnic cleansing for which perpetrators must be prosecuted under international law. It finally stressed that the silence of the international community is encouraging the occupation authorities to carry out their expansionist colonial projects. For further details, click here
