The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the attack by settlers on the Roman Church in occupied Jerusalem and held the Israeli government fully responsible for the aggression against the holy sites and the denial of access to them. The Foreign Ministry considered that such attacks represent an explicit call for religious war to conceal the political nature of the conflict, and called on the international community and specialized international organizations to provide international protection for Christian and Islamic sanctities, including the guarantee of freedom of worship and the right of the worshippers to access them as a basic principle of human rights and as an important part of the Geneva Conventions by which Israel must abide.
