The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said that the law preventing Palestinian family reunion, which Israeli Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked intends to submit to the Knesset for getting approval and extension of its validity to deprive the Palestinian people in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, as well as the Gaza Strip, of the right of citizenship and residency with their spouses and children within the territory of the Green Line. Furthermore, the Ministry said that this law represents racist and clear evidence of an apartheid state. This law separates Palestinian families and aims to prevent an increase in the number of Palestinians in the lands within the Green Line as a form of ethnic cleansing and a flagrant violation of human rights principles, the Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law, the ministry added. The ministry stressed that it will follow up on the issue of Palestinian family reunification and Israel’s violation of this right which is guaranteed under international law, especially the relevant UN organizations and councils, foremost of which is the Human Rights Council. Besides, it demanded to put an end to the occupation and its control over the issue of Palestinian family reunification, as it is a legal, human and moral right and not grace from it.
