Palestinian Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh considered US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s intention to visit settlements in the occupied West Bank “a dangerous precedent that violates international law and UN resolutions.”Shtayyeh said during a meeting with the Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zakharieva in Ramallah that “this visit to a settlement built on lands belonging to Palestinian owners seized by the occupation is a way to legitimize the settlements and creates “a dangerous precedent that violates international law”, calling on the whole world to condemn it. Pompeo intends to start an official visit to Israel next week. Pompeo is also expected to visit the Golan Heights, occupied since 1967, and the Israeli settlements in the West Bank, according to the American “Axios” website. Shtayyeh called on that Bulgarian Foreign Minister to urge her country to join the European Union with the new US administration (led by President-elect Joe Biden), to find a real political path to solve the Palestinian issue based on international law and UN resolutions.
