Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh discussed with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, Augusto Santos Silva, the latest political developments in the Palestinian question. Shtayyeh stressed the importance of breaking the status quo and applying the Portuguese parliament’s call to the government to recognize the state of Palestine, to preserve the two-state solution from fading away in light of the systematic Israeli settlement expansion and Israeli practices in destroying any opportunity to establish a Palestinian state. He pointed out that an international coalition should be formulated to revive the peace process, headed by the International Quartet, based on United Nations resolutions and international law, to end the occupation and find a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian question. For his part, the Portuguese Foreign Minister emphasized his country’s support for the two-state solution, adding that Europe will consider this decision, as well as friendly relations with the two countries.
