The Middle East Quartet, composed of the European Union, Russia, the United States and the United Nations, met to discuss a return to negotiations on the implementation of the two-state solution and its concrete steps to promote the freedom, security and prosperity for Palestinians and Israelis. The meeting called on the Israeli and Palestinian parties to avoid any unilateral action that would complicate the implementation of the two-state solution, referring in particular to the Israeli settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem and Israeli attempts to annex parts of the West Bank.
