Palestine’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Riyad Mansour, said in his speech to the UN Security Council session to discuss the situation in the Middle East, that there is an urgent need to ensure that Israel does not put obstacles in the way of the Palestinian elections. He pointed out that the past days witnessed the Israeli occupation authorities arresting a number of candidates for the Legislative Council elections, in addition to preventing the holding of meetings in Jerusalem for political parties, associations and civil society institutions. Ambassador Mansour further called for the application of international law and for everyone to be bound by it without exception, calling for the implementation of an international action plan against the Israeli colonial policies that are implemented at the expense of the rights of the Palestinian people. This plan must be based on clear international positions, Security Council resolutions, and UN agreements that stipulate respect for the Palestinian right to his land. For further details, click here
